CROWN POINT (05-04-2018) In a make-up game postponed due to rain from April 30, the Valparaiso Vikings and the Crown Point Bulldogs had difficulty scoring in their first Duneland Athletic Conference showdown of 2019.

After the Vikings picked-up the game’s first run in top of the fifth, a crucial error proved the difference as the Bulldogs prevailed 3-1.

With Crown Point batting in the bottom of the fifth, runners at second and third and two outs, Valparaiso senior second baseman Graham Gonzales misplayed a routine pop fly, which would have retired the side. Instead, both runners for the Bulldogs scored to take the two-run lead.

The following inning, Crown Point would add an insurance run as junior left fielder Jacob Bosse drew a bases loaded walk.

Senior right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Fender struck out 10, including fanning the side in the top of the third after loading the bases on three walks.

Fender frustrated the Vikings as Valparaiso left 10 runners on base.
