CROWN POINT (05-17-2019) For Gene Kolarik, it did not start off the way he liked against the Northwest Crossroads Conference's Munster Mustangs. The Crown Point Bulldogs’ junior right-handed starting pitcher gave-up two runs in the top half of the first inning, including one on a wild pitch. He gave-up two hits and hit two batters.

In the end, it turned into Kolarik’s night as he pitched a complete game 6-3 victory at Crown Point High School for the Duneland Athletic Conference’s Bulldogs.

In the bottom half of the first inning, the Bulldogs managed to pull even, with an RBI double by junior Christian Mojica and a sacrifice fly senior Alex Rich that brought in a run.

Crown Point would then add a three-spot an inning later as senior Josh Lindeman singled-in a run and Kolarik drew an RBI bases-loaded walk.

Lindeman would come in and score from third base on an unassisted groundout to first base by Alex Rich.

Over the first two innings, junior Jacob Bosse would score two runs after reaching base, first on an error and then a walk.

On the mound Kolarik evntually settled down, retiring at one point seven straight Munster hitters from the second to the fourth inning. In that span, he recorded four strike outs.

The Bulldogs would add an insurance run in the bottom half of the fifth, when junior Zach Stubitsch’s bunt single brought in junior Drew Horton from third base.

Munster picked-up a run in the top half of the sixth, when junior Ronan Meyer reached second on a two-base error, scoring junior Will Melby, who led off the inning with a double to right field.

Melby also had an RBI single in the first inning that scored senior Nick Fies from second base. In turn, Melby would score on the Kolarik wild pitch in the first.

For the Bulldogs, everyone was a hitter who came to the plate, reaching base safely at least once.
