CROWN POINT (01-31-2016) Against the Boone Grove Wolves, Grant Gelon picked-up where he left off. In last year’s meeting against the Crown Point Bulldogs Porter County Conference rival, the senior guard had 16 points, going four of six from three-point range. The Bulldogs won that game 61-39 on Jan. 31, 2015.

On Saturday night, in the 2016 installment of the rivalry, history repeated itself in almost similar fashion. Gelon led all scorers with 18 points, with a four of nine performance from beyond the arc.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 23 points in the third quarter before the Wolves stepped up their defensive pressure and outscored the host Bulldogs 13-3 in the fourth quarter. In the end, Crown Point prevailed with a 40-31 win over Boone Grove.

The Bulldogs improved their mark to 10-6, while the Wolves fell to 13-2.

Boone Grove’s lone previous loss had come in their first game of the season in late November, having dropped the opener to Valparaiso. The win marked the Bulldogs' fourth straight victory.

Senior Sasha Stefanovic and junior Andrew Kenneally also helped the Bulldogs' cause with eight points apiece in a first half that had Crown Point shooting 60 percent to 29.4 percent by Boone Grove.
The Wolves had two seniors lead the way in a losing effort as David Ooms had 11 points, and right behind was Evan Stewart’s 10.

Boone Grove only tailed-up six points in each of the first three quarters as Crown Point built a 27-12 lead at halftime.

DOGS/WOLVES NOTES: With the win on Saturday, it marked the sixth straight for Crown Point over Boone Grove. The last time the Wolves defeated the Bulldogs was on Jan. 30, 2010 at Crown Point.

Saturday night’s game also marked the annual Coaches vs. Cancer challenge. Pink T-Shirts were sold for $10 with all proceeds going toward cancer research. The Bulldogs wore white jerseys with pink trim as well as pink numbers on the front and back and lettering on the front.

The Bulldogs return to play on Thursday night (Feb. 4) in a home DAC match-up against the Portage Indians before hitting the road for a Saturday Feb. 6 matinee at 2 p.m. two days later against the East Chicago Central Cardinals.

Pink T-Shirts were available for a $10 purchase during Saturday night's game between the Boone Grove Wolves and the Crown Point Bulldogs as part of the annual 'Coaches vs. Cancer' challenge. The proceeds went to cancer research.
