CROWN POINT, IN (01-22-2011) High school teams often play the exact same schedule every season. It's boring, but at least you can count on it. Since the Duneland Athletic Conference (DAC) went to its 14-game double round robin schedule in 2003, Crown Point has played Michigan City and East Chicago on the same weekend in January. They had never won both games. Never. Not once. Until now.

Crown Point followed up a 49-37 come-from-behind win at Michigan City Friday night in LaPorte County with a surprising 71-51 blowout of East Chicago Saturday night in Crown Point.

The Bulldogs improved to 11-2 on the season, the first time they have ben nine games over the .500 mark since they were 17-6 after winning the Michigan City regional in March of 2008.

Michael Albrecht, who scored 22 and grabbed nine rebounds in Friday night's win, posted 35 with nine rebounds against EC (10-4) in a game where that wasn't the biggest news. The Cardinals, who average almost 70 points per game (69.8 ppg.) were held to a dismal 14 points in the first half. The Cards may have been tired after an 89-87 win over Gary Roosevelt Friday night, but suddenly the Bulldogs are creating a defensive resume. Only Merrillville has scored more than 54 points in any game against CP so far and Michigan City was the sixth CP foe to be held to less than 45 points this season.

CP's 6-foot-10 senior center Jared Smoot blocked five shots against Michigan City and four more against EC. Cardinal star Jerrick Ware was 8-of-24 from the floor and EC trailed 33-14 at the half.

Friday night, Michigan City (6-7) led 13-9 and 17-12, but shot just 13 of 53 from the field. Albrecht, who was scoreless in the first quarter, scored 11 in the second quarter and 11 more in the second half.

The Bulldogs (11-2, 7-2 DAC) try to move into second place in the Duneland Conference when they host Valparaiso (10-3, 7-2 DAC) Friday (Jan. 28) night. CP travels to neighbor Boone Grove Saturday night. The junior varsity game both nights begins at 6 p.m.
