ST. JOHN (5-21-2019) It did not start well for the Crown Point Bulldogs early in their opening round game against the Kankakee Valley Kougars of the Indiana High School Athletic Association’s Class 4A, Sectional 1 softball tournament.

At Lake Central High School in St. John, the Bulldogs left six runners on base through the first three innings and could not score, including the bases left loaded in the opening frame.

But Crown Point managed to put up a two spot in the fourth and six innings and moved on in the tournament with a 4-0 victory.

Three Crown Point pitchers, freshman starter Brinkley Kita, and sophomore relievers Madi Young and Madi Elish combined for a one-hitter.

Elish contributed mightily at the plate, ripping two RBI triples in each inning (4th and 6th) the Bulldogs put runs on the board.

The scoring opened with junior Katie Neal’s sacrifice fly in the fourth that brought home senior Grace Frazer from third base.

In the sixth, sophomore Alexis Holloway had an RBI single to right field, in which Elish scored from third.

The Bulldogs were able to get the leadoff hitter on base in every inning from the second to the fifth.

Kankakee Valley only had two base runners total, both coming in their half of the third when sophomore Carley Basham drew a walk, followed by an infield single by senior Maddie Swart.
