CROWN POINT (01-19-2018) It started out well for the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs. It appeared as if victory seemed possible against the Chesterton Lady Trojans.

Crown Point led after all three quarters against the Lady Trojans, including a 28-22 advantage to close out the third quarter.

But Chesterton had other ideas, displayed in a 16-4 fourth quarter run as the Lady Trojans picked-up their ninth win in 10 games with a 38-32 defeat of the Lady Bulldogs on January 19 at Crown Point High School.

The Lady Trojans got the support of senior guard Courtney Krol who led the way with 15 points while senior forward/center Hailey Vale chipped in 10 points, going 8 of 10 from the free throw line.

Crown Point got the effort of junior guard Ellie VanDeel as she chipped-in 14 points.

For both teams, shooting became an issue. The Lady Bulldogs only shot 25.6 percent, while the Lady Trojans mustered 24.3 percent. Crown Point could only connect on 15.8 percent of their shots in the second half, going 3 of 19.

With the win, Chesterton improves their overall mark to 19-2, 5-2 in the Duneland Athletic Conference, while Crown Point dropped to 12-10, 2-5 in the DAC.

For the Lady Bulldogs, this marked their second straight lost, including a 39-36 defeat by Kankakee Valley three nights earlier.

“Chesterton has had a great season, but we have to play a complete game and not three and a half quarters,” Crown Point Head Coach Chris Seibert said. “The important thing is to move forward and play our best basketball.”

LADY DOG NOTES: The loss against Chesterton marked the final home regular season game for Crown Point closed out the season at 5-7 in their own building.
