VALPARAISO (02-02-2016) It became a statement from the early minutes, and a statement that the Crown Point Lady Bulldogs made loud and clear. Entering the Class 4A, Sectional 2 tournament at Valparaiso High School on Tuesday night, the Lady Bulldogs had the Lady Vikings in their own gym and had their way, resulting in a 71-50 win.

The victory advances the Lady Bulldogs to play the Hobart Lady Brickies Friday night, in the first of two semi-final games at sectional host Valparaiso High school. Crown Point defeated Hobart earlier in the season Dec. 5 at the Wildcat Winter Classic, 40-30.

Senior Hannah Albrecht had 19 points for the Lady Bulldogs, with 17 coming in the first half that saw her team up 26-9 at the end of the first quarter and 46-21 at halftime.

Crown Point would build their lead to 65-30 to close out the third quarter and were up by as many as 38 points before Valparaiso made a late run.

In the first half, the Lady Bulldogs connected on eight three-point field goals. They finished the game with 11 from beyond the arc.

Right behind Albrecht, the Lady Bulldogs got the support senior Megan Morgan, who had 15 points with three from long range, senior Katie Pawlowski had all 12 of her points come on four three-pointers, while junior Sydney Taylor also had 12 points and sophomore Mya Scheidt chipped in 10 points.

In consolation, the Lady Vikings outscored Crown Point 20-6, as senior Alexis Ferngren in her final game for Valparaiso connected on six three-point shots, all in the second half, to finish with 20 points. Fellow Lady Vikings senior Oilvia Murray had 13 points.

For the Lady Bulldogs, this victory marked a clean sweep of the Lady Vikings who they defeated on Dec. 11 at home 53-40

Dog Notes: The sectional win for the Lady Bulldogs marked their ninth straight over Valparaiso, including postseason games. The last time Valparaiso defeated Crown Point was on Dec. 15, 2009 at home in a 65-51 final.

The Lady Bulldogs 71 points scored over Valparaiso marked the fourth time they have tailed 70 or more points in a game this season. Their highest point total was on Nov. 13th in their opener in which they scored 80 points in a win (80-21 at Concord).
