ISU Sycamores fall to DePaul, 78-66

East Lansing, MI (11-29-2003) - Despite a game-high 20 points from David Moss (Chicago, Ill./Thornwood HS), the Indiana State men’s basketball team fell to DePaul, 78-66, on Saturday (Nov. 29), in the first round of the Coca-Cola Classic. ISU struggled from the floor, as the trees shot just 36.7 percent (22-of-60) from the field. Conversely, the Blue Demons finished the game with a .500 shooting percentage (28-of-56).

Trailing 31-29 at halftime, the Sycamores used a 14-2 run in the first four minutes of the second half to take a ten-point lead (43-33). DePaul cut ISU’s lead to one point (45-44) with 12:59 remaining in the contest. The Sycamores were able to surge ahead by six (52-46), but saw the Blue Demons take the lead (58-56) for good with 8:07 left to play on a jump shot by Sammy Mejia. The Sycamores would get no closer than four points (68-64) down the stretch, as DePaul held on for the victory.

Senior Marcus Howard (Elgin, Ill.) totaled 13 points for ISU, while freshman Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Ill.) tallied twelve points on four-of-four shooting from three-point range. Moss and Ted Morris (St. Louis, Mo./Chaminade HS) led the Sycamores with five rebounds apiece.

Quemont Greer paced DePaul with 18 points, while Delonte Holland recorded 16 for the Blue Demons. Andre Brown scored 14 points, and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in the victory. The Blue Demons enjoyed an advantage on the front line, as they outscored the Sycamores 36-16 in the paint. DePaul also scored 25 points on 15 ISU turnovers.

The Sycamores return to action on Sunday (Nov. 30), when they face the University of Pennsylvania at 1:00 p.m., CST in the consolation game of the Coca-Cola Classic. The entire Sycamores' 2003-2004 men's basketball season will be carried live via Internet Audio streaming on USA-365.com.  Brian Fritz calls the play-by-play and Jim Waugh provides the color commentary.
