CEDAR
LAKE, IN (11-23-2011) It
looked like the night was going to be a total success for the home team. After
Hanover's come-from-behind 49-43 upset of the Lowell's girls team, Hanover's
2011 state baseball runner-up squad was honored at halftime with a ring
presentation ceremony.
Then HC jumped out to leads of 24-15 and 41-33 on Lowell's boys
in the first half of the second game of the annual Thanksgiving Eve
double-header. But the Devils finally shut off Hanover's three-point shooting
and outran the home team 82-72 for a split of the four-hour holiday showcase in
front of about 1,500 family and friends.
CAT/DEVIL NOTES: Hanover Central had opened the season two nights
before the Lowell game with a 67-62 home loss to Clark. Hanover outscored the
Pioneers 14-3 to begin the final quarter, taking a 56-52 lead. But Clark scored
the next 11 points. Forward Laroi Harmon and senior guard Nate Wilkerson both
scored 18 for the Pioneers while Nick Bollenbacher led HC with 24. Max Johnson
added 17.
