Sycamores pick up road win at IPFW

FT. WAYNE, IN (11-19-2006) —  Trent Wurtz had a game high 21 points and Marico Stinson came off the bench to add 13 as the Indiana State Sycamores downed Indiana-Purdue-Fort Wayne 67-61 in Fort Wayne on Sunday.

Wurtz (Sheboygan, Wis.) had six of the Sycamores first eight points as Indiana State jumped out to a 37-29 halftime advantage. Stinson (Memphis, Tenn.) helped in that run, scoring nine of his on 4-5 shooting, including hitting a three as time expired.

ISU pushed there lead to 15 in the second half on a Stinson lay-up with 12 minutes to go. But IPFW came back, going on a 19-6 run that cut the lead to two 56-54 with 4:15 to play. The Sycamores and Mastadons see-sawed back and forth for the next couple of minutes with the lead never getting bigger than four, then but a bucket by Gabe Moore (Little Rock, Ark.) got the lead back to six and the Sycamores picked up the win.

ISU shot 50 percent from the floor in the game, but were just 18-31 from the line, including 3-10 in the final two minutes. ISU out rebounded the Mastadons 38-32 while forcing 12 turnovers. IPFW shot just 37.3 percent from the field and went 7-25 from three-point range.

With the win, head coach Royce Waltman moved into a tie for second place all-time in wins at ISU with Glenn Curtis at 122.
