TERRE
HAUTE, IN (3-29-2006) – Indiana
State Director of Athletics Ron Prettyman announced today (March 29) the
completion of the 2006 Sycamore football schedule. This fall, ISU will be led by
second-year head coach Lou West as he leads ISU into its 21st
consecutive season as a member of the Gateway Football Conference.
“We are really looking forward to the new football season,” Prettyman said. “The team and coaches are working hard in the spring and getting ready to compete this fall. Coach West is continuing to lay the foundation for the rebuilding of the program and progress is rapidly taking place. With a solid core of returnees and a talented bunch of recruits, we should be an exciting team to watch next season."
The Sycamore slate opens on September 2 when they make the short trip to face off against in-state rival Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind. The contest versus the Boilermakers is the first of four non-conference games to appear on the schedule. ISU last faced Purdue in 1990. It will be just the third-ever meeting between the two schools in football.
Indiana State faces off against long-time opponent Eastern Illinois on September 9 when they travel to Charleston, Ill., for a 7:00 p.m. (EST) kickoff against the Panthers. The Sycamores open the home portion of the schedule when they take on Murray State, September 16, at Memorial Stadium. The non-conference schedule ends on September 23 when the Sycamores travel to Northern Illinois. It will be the first meeting between the two schools since 1976.
ISU opens the Gateway schedule with two road contests, beginning on September 30 when they travel to Southern Illinois and then continuing on October 7 at Youngstown State.
The Sycamores return home for a pair of games after opening on the road as they host Northern Iowa on October 14, then welcome Missouri State to Memorial Stadium, October 21, for the annual Homecoming contest.
After traveling to Western Kentucky (October 28) and Western Illinois (November 4), ISU concludes the season at home against Illinois State on November 11.
At Memorial
Stadium, ISU will kickoff against Murray State (Sept. 16) at 12:05 p.m.,
Northern Iowa (Oct. 14) at 4:35 p.m., Missouri State (Oct. 21) at 2:05 p.m. and
Illinois State (Nov. 11) at 12:05 p.m. All times are Eastern. USA-365.com
