TERRE
HAUTE, IN (1-20-2006) – Three
Indiana State assistant football coaches have left their positions, head coach
Lou West announced today (Jan. 20). Associate Head Coach/Offensive Coordinator
and quarterbacks coach Charley Molnar is leaving to take a similar role at
Central Michigan. Also departing are running backs coach Paul Macklin, for a
position at Delaware State, and tight ends coach Chris Binder.
Molnar made a dramatic impact in just one season for the Sycamores. His high-octane attack netted several Sycamore and Gateway Football Conference records. ISU broke the school record for passing yards in a season with 2,906. Quarterback Blayne Baggett set the ISU record for pass completions, pass attempts and yards passing in a season. Baggett's 396 yards passing at Missouri State were a single-game record, and his 33 pass completions at Murray State also set a school standard.
Sycamore wide receiver Sam Logan etched his name in the records book by catching a school-record 77 passes during the season. Versus Murray State, Logan set a Gateway standard with 17 receptions en route to being named first team all-conference. Tight end Jamie Petrowski enjoyed a stellar final season with the program as he caught 57 passes for 517 yards en route to being named first team all-conference as well as Third Team All- American by The Sports Network as well as the Associated Press.
Offensive center Mike Thorpe was a second team all-conference member while Baggett and tailback Andre Forte were honorable mention All-Gateway selections. Macklin garnered success by tutoring the solid Sycamores backfield of Forte, Martuan Sample and Cornell Johnson. That trio of talented backs eclipsed the 1,000-yard rushing mark in 2005. He spent three seasons with ISU.
Binder leaves after just one season, in which he tutored Jamie Petrowksi, who claimed several All-America honors at the completion of the 2005 season. The Sycamore tight ends combined for 61 pass receptions that netted 581 yards in 2005. Binder also oversaw the Indiana State football film exchange program. West will begin a national search immediately to fill his coaching staff vacancies.
