TERRE
HAUTE, IN (11-5-2005) – The Indiana State University men’s basketball team
opens the 2005-06 season tonight (Nov. 5) at the Hulman Center in Terre Haute by
hosting the Indianapolis Greyhounds. The live broadcast will be carried locally
on radio station WSDM (92.7 FM) and Internet radio www.USA-3665.com
beginning at 5:40 p.m., CST. The tip-off is set for 6:05pm, CST.
Game Notes:
• ISU head coach Royce Waltman served as
coach of the Greyhounds from 1992-97. Assistant coach Stan Gouard joined the ISU
staff this summer after serving as an
assistant with Indianapolis for the past three seasons.
• Waltman enters the 2005-06 season with 108 wins at ISU and needs just 15 more victories to move into second place on the school’s all-time wins list. Duane Klueh holds the top spot with 182 career wins.
• Senior guard David Moss has led the team in scoring each of the past three seasons. Should Moss lead the Trees in scoring in 2005-06 he would become just the third player in school history to lead ISU in scoring for four years (Eddie Bird, John Sherman Williams).
• The backcourt tandem of Gabriel Moore and Tyson Schnitker has combined for 81 career starts. Schnitker started 21 of 24 games last season, while Moore made 23 starts and was one of three returning Sycamores (Moss, Yelovich) to appear in all 31 games.
• Elliott Booe, Moss, Schnitker, and Russell Trudeau were named 2005 Verizon Scholar-Athletes.
Junior Tyson Schnitker
On opening the season Saturday … “We’ve been waiting on this all
summer, though the preseason, individual workouts, we’re sick of beating up on
ourselves.
On the anticipation of starting the season … “It’ll be good for some of the young guys to get out there and play against a real opponent in front of our crowd. Everyone’s excited.”
Sophomore Gabriel Moore
On his improvement during the offseason … “I’ve worked on being a
better leader. If you’re going to play point guard you have to be a leader of
the team.”
On his comfort level in his second year with the team … “I feel real comfortable knowing that coach Waltman has confidence in me. Last year I had to earn that confidence by playing well throughout the season.”
