ISU Sycamores' Moss named MVC player of the week

TERRE HAUTE, IN (12-13-2004)Indiana State junior guard David Moss (Chicago, Ill./Thornwood HS) was named the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week today (Dec. 13) after leading the Sycamores to victories over Valparaiso and Butler last weekend. Moss averaged 28.0 points and 11.0 rebounds for the week in two ISU victories. He also totaled six assists, three blocks, and two steals, while shooting 58.8 percent (20-of-34) from the field.

Against Valparaiso, he finished with a game-high 27 points and a career-high 14 rebounds for his second double-double of the year. He was 9-of-16 shooting with three blocked shots in leading the Sycamores to a 70-68 overtime win.

On Saturday (Dec. 11), Moss finished with a game-high 29 points and eight rebounds versus Butler. He was 11-of-17 from the field, recording four assists and one steal. Moss scored 20 points in the second half, including the last nine points of the game for the Sycamores, to secure a 57-54 come-from-behind victory.

Moss leads the MVC in scoring at 19.7 points per game. He is also the only player in the league to rank in the top 15 in points, rebounds and assists. Moss is fourth in the league in rebounding at 8.1 rpg and 10th in assists at 3.4 apg, and leads the Sycamores in each category. Moss was named MVC Player of the Week one year ago, on December 15, 2003, after posting 18.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 blocks per contest.

The Sycamores are off to a 5-2 start, including a current four-game winning streak. It is the best start for ISU since the 2000-01 season when the Sycamores jumped out to a 6-1 start. ISU will travel to Ball State on Saturday (Dec. 18) to face the Cardinals at 4:00 p.m., EST (3:00 p.m., CST).  ISU will then travel to Hawaii for three games at the Outrigger Rainbow Classic.
