Darren Brooks scored 16 points, while
Jamaal Tatum added 14 as the Southern Illinois Salukis downed Indiana State,
64-59, in the quarterfinals of the 2005 Missouri Valley Conference Tournament.
The Salukis, who shot 44 percent (24-of-54) from the field, limited the Trees to
just 16-of-51 (.314) shooting from the floor.
Southern Illinois (26-6) led the Sycamores by as many as 17 points (49-32) in the second half, but the Trees went on a 14-0 run and cut the lead to three (49-46) when Jerod Adler made a layup with 5:05 to play. The Salukis responded with a 15-0 run to take command down the stretch.
Senior Amani Daanish led the Sycamores with 14 points and a game-high nine rebounds. Gabriel Moore scored 11 points, while Eric Gray chipped in 10 for ISU. Junior David Moss was held to four points, but recorded eight rebounds and a game-high six assists.
SIU advances to face the winner of the Northern Iowa-SMS quarterfinal, while Indiana State’s season concludes with a record of 11-20.
