NE - (2-19-2003) — A 15-2 run to start the second half sparked No.
17 Creighton past Indiana State on Wednesday night en route to a 77-54 victory.
The two teams battled in the opening 20 minutes before the big run in the second
stanza. The host Bluejays held on to a 36-27 lead at the halftime break on the
strength of 12 points from All-American candidate Kyle Korver.
The Sycamores were down 21-20 with 6:54 remaining in the opening half; however, the Bluejays scored the nine of the next 10 points to take a 30-21 lead. In the opening half, ISU got nine points from freshman David Moss, who was 3-for-3 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free-throw line.
In the second 20 minutes, Korver's supporing cast of Brody Deren and Larry House emerged to lead the Bluejays to the victory. Korver led CU with 15 points, House added 13 and Deren chipped in 12 en route to the win. Moss led all scorers with 17 points in the loss.
ISU is now 6-19 overall and 2-12 in the MVC; meanwhile, No. 17 Creighton improves to 23-3 overall and 13-2 in the Valley.
The Sycamores are back home, at the Hulman Center, on Saturday, Feb. 22 against Wichita State at 3:35 p.m., CST. For the first time since the 1997-98 season, the Shocker men's basketball team has won 10 conference games, defeating Drake, 80-70. The team is now 15-8 overall and 10-4 in MVC play.
