HI (12-22-2004) – The Indiana State men’s basketball team suffered
an 83-57 loss to Clemson in the consolation bracket of the 2004 Outrigger Hotels
Rainbow Classic on Wednesday (Dec. 22). The Sycamores were plagued by cold
shooting, as they connected on a season-low 30.5 percent (18-of-59) from the
field. Clemson forced ISU into a season-high 22 turnovers, which the Tigers
turned into 29 points.
Freshman Mick Yelovich turned in his best performance as a Sycamore. The center posted a team-high 15 points and grabbed a personal-best eight rebounds in 27 minutes of action. David Moss scored 12 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Russell Trudeau scored a season-high eight points off the bench for the Trees.
Akin Akingbala led all scorers with 13 points for Clemson, while Vernon Hamilton came off the bench and scored 11 for the Tigers. Sharrod Ford added nine points for Clemson, which finished the game shooting .531 (34-of-64) from the floor. Clemson enjoyed a 39-38 rebounding advantage and outscored the Trees 12-2 in the paint.
The loss drops ISU to 5-5 on the season, while Clemson improves to 8-2. The Sycamores play their final game of the Rainbow Classic on Thursday (Dec. 23), when the Trees take on Long Beach State in the seventh-place game. Tip-off is set for 11:00 a.m. HT.
