DES
MOINES, IA (2-22-2005) –
Indiana State built a nine-point halftime
advantage but a slow start to the second half let the Drake Bulldogs back into
the game and the Sycamores could not pull it out down the stretch as they
dropped another tough decision on the road, 63-60. ISU and Drake are now tied
with identical 5-11 MVC records and are both 10-16 overall.
The Sycamores had several chances in the waning seconds after Aamni Daanish cut the lead to 60-59 with 29.3 seconds remaining, but were unable to hit the big shot. Eric Gray missed a three point shot with 10 seconds left, but Daanish grabbed the offensive board. Drake then fouled David Moss, who hit one of two free throws. Drake had its second free throw roll out, to give the Sycamores one last chance to tie the game but Gray’s last second effort was off the mark.
ISU built a 33-24 halftime lead but was limited to only 25.9 shooting in the second half and did not record a field goal until the 14:53 mark of the period, which allowed Drake to cut the lead to one. The Bulldogs eventually led by as many as eight before ISU made a run in the closing minutes.
David Moss recorded a double-double with a game-high 20 points and 11 rebounds and Gabe Moore added 12 points for the Sycamores.
ISU falls to 0-13 away from the Hulman Center this season. The Sycamores have one more chance to earn a win on the road as they make their last road trip of the regular season on Saturday (Feb. 26) to Creighton with tip-off slated for 1:05 p.m., CST.
