CEDAR
FALLS, IA (1-26-2005) – The
Indiana State men's basketball team kept it close on the road at Northern Iowa
but could not overtake the Panthers as they dropped a 69-61 decision in Cedar
Falls on Wednesday night.
The Sycamores trailed 27-22 in a defensive struggle at halftime, but picked up the offense in the final period behind a 26-point second half effort from junior David Moss. ISU was down by only one after a Moss free throw cut the lead to 57-56 with 2:28 remaining but the Sycamores could not take the lead as the Panthers hit all six of their free throws in the final 1:04.
Moss was held to only two free throws in the first half, but finished the game 10-of-14 from the field, including two three-point field goals and 6-of-8 shooting from the line. Amani Daanish also recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds for the Sycamores, while Jerod Adler posted seven points, six rebounds and four assists.
ISU shot only 29.2% in the first half, but held UNI to 37.5% shooting to remain close. Both teams had much improved offensive efforts in the second stanza as ISU shot 43.8%, but it wasn't enough to overcome 60% shooting by the Panthers.
Four Panthers scored in double figures and were led by Ben Jacobson's 15 points.
The Sycamores drop to 7-13 on the season and 2-7 in conference action. UNI snaps a two-game losing skid and improves to 14-6 (5-4 MVC). ISU returns to the Hulman Center on Saturday (Jan. 29) to host Bradley in conference action at 1:05 p.m., CST.
