Indiana State Stumbles in Second Half Loss at Creighton 67-62

Omaha, NE (2-22-2006) Indiana State led going into the half, but were unable to hold on during the second half and fell at Creighton 67-62 Wednesday night. The loss drops the Sycamores to 4-13 in conference play and 12-14 overall. The win keeps Creighton in second place in the Valley at 12-5 in conference and 19-7 overall.

The Sycamores built a 38-27 advantage going into half time and only trailed once during the first 20 minutes of the first-half. ISU shot 63-percent over the course of the half compared to Creighton’s 35-percent.

In the second half, Indiana State would build the lead to as much as 14, but with only two minutes passed the wheels would come off. The Blue jays used an 18-4 run over the next ten-minutes and tied the game at 47-47 with 8:20 remaining in the game. Creighton built the lead to as much as 11 and the Sycamores were not able to recover, despite a valiant effort and fell 67-62.

Creighton’s Johnny Mathies led all scoring with 18 and added seven steals. Anthony Tolliver (15) and Nick Porter (14) rounded out the double-digit scoring for the Blue jays. Gabe Moore paced the Sycamores with 17 points on a blistering seven of nine from the field, including three of four behind the three-point line. Tyson Schnitker also found his long range scoring touch, going four of five behind the arc for a total of 16 points. David Moss added 14 points, six assists and seven rebounds in the loss.

Indiana State will be back in action on Saturday in the regular season finale against Evansville.
