Bradley holds off ISU Sycamores, 76-66

PEORIA, IL (1-2-2005) Five Bradley Braves scored in double figures as BU downed Indiana State 76-66, on Sunday (Jan. 2). In a back-and-forth affair which saw eight ties and nine lead changes, it was the Braves who took the lead for good with 13:56 remaining in the game on a Lawrence Wright putback. Indiana State trailed by four (63-59) with 3:55 to play, but was unable to draw any closer in the waning minutes.

Three Sycamores scored in double digits, led by senior forward Amani Daanish, who tied his career high with 17 points. Tyson Schnitker tied his career high with 15 points, which all came in the first half, while David Moss added 14 for the Trees. Sophomore Russ Trudeau tied his season with eight points off the bench.

Marcellus Sommerville led the Braves with 14 points. Wright added 13 points off the BU bench, while Daniel Ruffin scored 11. Tony Bennett and Patrick O’Bryant each added ten points for Bradley. O’Bryant also recorded a game-high 13 rebounds.

Indiana State finished the game shooting 25-of-61 (.410) from the floor, while Bradley connected on 29-of-59 shots (.492). Bradley enjoyed a 40-31 rebounding advantage, and saw its bench outscore ISU, 22-12.

The loss drops ISU to 5-8 (0-2 MVC) on the season, while Bradley moves to 8-2 (1-1 MVC). The Sycamores return to action on Thursday (Jan. 6) when they travel to face Illinois State in Normal, Ill.
