Drake’s Klayton Korver connected on two free throws at the end of regulation
to send Indiana State and Drake to overtime, where the Bulldogs prevailed 74-69.
Trailing 63-61 with twelve seconds remaining, Drake held the ball for the final shot in regulation. Lonnie Randolph drove to the right of the lane, and passed to Korver at the top of the arc. Korver stepped inside the three-point line and was fouled in the act of shooting by Jerod Adler as the buzzer sounded to end regulation.
The Bulldogs outscored the Sycamores, 11-6, in the extra period. Trailing 72-69 with 10 seconds to play in overtime, Tyson Schnitker missed a three-point shot from the top of the arc. Korver then made two free throws to cap the scoring.
Eric Gray led all scorers with a career-high 29 points. Gray connected on 8-of-19 from three-point range. Indiana State attempted a school-record 38 three-point shots. Schnitker finished with a career-high 15 points in the loss, while junior Amani Daanish grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds. Indiana State struggled from the free throw line, connecting on just 13-of-25 attempts. The Trees shot just 32.4 percent (22-of-68), while Drake knocked down 24-of-35 (.686) from the floor.
Pete Eggers paced Drake with 17 points, while Korver added 12. Chris Bryant and Aliou Keita each chipped in 11 points for the Bulldogs. Drake committed 24 turnovers but managed to shoot 20-of-26 from the free-throw line. The Bulldogs enjoyed a 35-32 advantage, despite the fact ISU managed to grab a season-high 18 offensive rebounds.
Indiana State falls to 5-7 (0-1 MVC) on the year, while Drake moves to 4-5 (1-1 MVC). The Sycamores return to action on Sunday (Jan. 2), when they travel to face the Bradley Braves. Tip-off is set for 7:05 p.m. EST. The game will be televised locally in Terre Haute on WTWO NewsChannel2.
