Aces Spoil 32 Points by Moss

EVANSVILLE, IN - (3-3-2003) —  Freshman David Moss scored a career-high 32 points as Indiana State dropped a 77-69 decision to host Evansville on Monday night.  The South Holland, Ill., native was 9-for-16 from the field, plus he also hit five three-pointers and nine of 11 free throws in 36 minutes of action.

"It wasn't about me feeling it," Moss said, "it was just me being more aggressive in the second half. My teammates did a good job of finding me."

Moss's effort was counter-balanced by a career-best performance by the Purple Aces' Ian Hanavan, who scored a career-high 28 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds. Fellow Aces Larry Ferguson and Clint Cuffle joined Hanavan in double figures with 17 and 11 points, respectively in front of a Senior Night crowd of 7,027 at Roberts Stadium.

With the win, UE moves to 12-15 on the season and 8-10 record in the MVC, which was good enough to lock up a No. 5 seed in the conference tournament. The Aces will square off against No. 4-seeded Southwest Missouri State in Saturday's quarterfinal round.

David Moss scored 32 points for the Sycamores (6-23, 2-16 Missouri Valley) and led all scorers. Catrel Green, Marcus Howard and Wilfred Antoine each scored nine points.

Evansville led 39-30 at halftime and scored 27 points in the paint, nearly double ISU's 14.  The Sycamores made 22-of-56 field goal attempts for 39 percent. The Purple Aces made 24-of-48 attempts for 50 percent.

Up next for Indiana State is Northern Iowa in the opening round of the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in St. Louis Friday night at 8:35 p.m.   Live Internet Audio Streaming coverage on USA-365.com begins with the pre-game show at 8:10 p.m., CST.
