HAUTE, IN (1-22-2004) - The Indiana
State University men’s basketball team used a 50-point second half to race
past the Drake Bulldogs, 80-70, on Thursday (Jan. 22). The Sycamores finished
the game 28-of-47 (.596) from the field, buoyed by a second half which saw ISU
connect on 16-of-22 (.727) shots.
David Moss (Chicago, Ill./Thornwood HS) led all scorers with 21 points. The sophomore finished with six rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes of play. Amani Daanish (Los Angeles, Calif./Cowley CC) recorded his first double-double as a Sycamore, posting 16 points and 12 rebounds in the win.
Lonnie Randolph led the Bulldogs with 18 points on 5-of-10 shooting from the floor. Klayton Korver added 13 points for DU, while Quantel Murphy and David Bancroft came off the bench to grab a team-high five rebounds, apiece.
Moss scored on a layup with 6:43 to play in the first half, which put the Sycamores ahead by nine (29-20). Drake closed the half with a 12-1 run to take a two-point lead (32-30) into the intermission.
The Sycamores (8-7, 4-3 MVC) used a 15-6 run over the first 5:48 of the second half to take a 47-39 lead. Drake (7-8, 3-4 MVC) would draw no closer than eight points the rest of the way, as the Trees built their lead to as many as 17 points (78-61) late in the game en route to the victory.
ISU’s backcourt tandem of Wilfred Antoine (New Orleans, La./Coffeyville JC) and Tyson Schnitker (Robinson, Ill.) also turned in a solid performance. Schnitker scored a season-high 14 points in the win, while Antoine’s twelve points was also a personal best for the season.
Indiana State returns to action on Sunday (Jan. 25) when the Sycamores travel to face Southern Illinois. Tip-off is set for 2:05 p.m. CST at SIU Arena. The game will be televised locally in Terre Haute on WTWO NewsChannel 2. The entire Sycamores' 2003-2004 men's basketball season will be carried live via Internet Audio streaming on USA-365.com.
