HAUTE, IN (11-7-2004) – The Indiana State University men’s basketball team
opened the 2004-05 season with an 82-56 win over Bellarmine University in
exhibition play on Sunday (Nov. 7). The Sycamores rallied from a 37-31 halftime
deficit to outscore the Knights 51-19 in the second half.
Senior Amani Daanish paced the Sycamores with a game-high 24 points. Daanish finished the game 8-of-9 from the field and 8-of-12 from the charity stripe. He also hauled in a game-high nine rebounds. Junior David Moss scored 20 points, while Eric Gray tallied 16 for ISU. The Sycamores dished out 16 assists and turned the ball over just eight times.
Marcus Flynn led the Knights with 20 points, while Kyle Thrasher and Montonio Blake added eleven and ten, respectively. After shooting 50 percent from the floor in the first half, the Knights were limited to just 22 percent shooting in the second stanza. Bellarmine made just six field goals after halftime.
Bellarmine connected on 21-of-57 (.368) from the floor for the game, while ISU made 46 percent (29-of-63) of its shots. The Sycamores enjoyed a 39-35 rebounding advantage, and outscored the Knights 26-22 in the paint.
The Sycamores play their final exhibition game on Saturday (Nov. 13) when they host the Indianapolis Greyhounds at 7:05 p.m.
ISU begins regular-season play on Friday, November 19, when the Trees host Coastal Carolina.
