ISU Sycamores end Murray State's home winning streak with 17-10 victory

MURRAY, KY - (9-20-2003) — Indiana State, led by the rushing of junior Jake Shields and his 196 yards, came from behind to defeat Murray State 17-10 on Saturday night. Jake Shields rushed 196 yards on 24 carries and scored one touchdown as Indiana State rallied with 10 points in the fourth quarter to beat Murray State 17-10 Saturday night.

Ron Lane carried the ball 11 times for 72 yards for Murray State (1-3). He also had two kick returns for 37 yards.

Indiana State (2-2) went ahead of the Racers 14-10 when Kris Karagory scored on a 6-yard touchdown run early in the final quarter.

With nine minutes to go, Kyle Hooper's field goal put ISU ahead 17-10.

The Sycamores secured the win when they recovered a Murray State fumble with 2:16 remaining in the game.

Indiana State had 341 yards of total offense with 221 yards on the ground. Quarterback Jake Schiff completed 11-of-15 passes for 120 yards.

"Our team came together tonight in a tough environment and pulled out a win against a team that has a lot of tradition in a stadium that has a lot of tradition," head coach Tim McGuire said. "Both teams really fought hard tonight and we made some big plays down the stretch that helped us win."

Murray State's Stewart Childress was 9-of-17 for 74 passing yards.

Greg Blake recovered an Indiana State fumble about 15 seconds into the second quarter to set up an offensive drive for the Racers. Oscar Walker scored on a 2-yard run two minutes later and Jesse Ohliger's kick tied the game at 7-7.

Murray State led 10-7 at halftime after Ohliger kicked a 23-yard field goal with 46 seconds remaining in the second quarter.

In the first quarter, the Sycamores scored on their opening drive. Shields scored on a 15-yard touchdown run about two and one-half minutes into the game. With Hooper's extra point, Indiana State led 7-0.
