State junior forward Trent Wurtz (Sheboygan, Wis./George Mason) has been named
the Missouri Valley Conference Newcomer of the Week. Wurtz helped the
Sycamores improve to 5-0 on the season with wins over No. 16/18 Indiana
(72-65) and Ball State (57-56).
Wurtz scored seven points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds in the win over Indiana. He added a season-high six assists and recorded two blocked shots against the Hoosiers. Wurtz followed that performance with 10 points and a team-high seven rebounds against the Cardinals. He averaged 8.5 points and 9.5 rebounds for the week. He is averaging 7.8 rebounds per game, which ranks fourth in the MVC. Wurtz has scored 8.8 points per game through ISU's first five contests.
Indiana State returns to action on Saturday (Dec. 17) when they travel to Hinkle Fieldhouse to take on the Butler Bulldogs.
