Sycamores Drop 74-46 Decision to Creighton

TERRE HAUTE, IN (1-29-2003) — Kyle Korver scored 14 points and DeAnthony Bowden added 12 off the bench as No. 16 Creighton defeated Indiana State, 74-46.

Creighton raised its record to 18-2 and 8-1 in the MVC with the win; meanwhile, Indiana State falls to 5-14 overall and 1-7 in the MVC. The No. 16 Bluejays were led by Kyle Korver, who not only was 5-of-9 from the field, he also led the team with 10 rebounds.

Creighton connected on 13 of its first 17 shots, and when the Sycamores went 8:29 without a basket during one stretch of the first half, Creighton took advantage with an 18-2 run. That gave Creighton a 30-10 lead with 6:47 left.

The host Sycamores made a charge, using a 10-2 run to close to 30-20 late in the half. But Creighton answered by scoring the final six points of the first half and opening the second half on an 11-4 run to make it 49-24 with 15:45 to go.

The Sycamores were led by Marcus Howard and Lamar Grimes, each with nine points. Up next for Indiana State is a 6:05 p.m., CST tilt against Southwest Missouri State University on Saturday (Feb. 1) night at the Hulman Center.
