Sycamores Lose to Wichita State, 71-55

WICHITA, KS (1-7-2003) —  Despite brief early leads, the Indiana State men's basketball team dropped a 71-55 decision to Wichita State on Tuesday night at the Kansas Coliseum.

Indiana State falls to 5-8 overall and 1-1 in the MVC; meanwhile, Wichita State improves to 7-4 overall and 2-0 in the Valley.

With its last lead at the 11:26 mark, following a David Moss jumper, the host Shockers of Wichita State went on a 27-8 run to take a 38-20 lead to close out the opening stanza.

In the second half it was more of the Shockers as they took their lead to as much as 26, following a three-point field goal from Matt Clark. However, the Sycamores reduced the deficit to 11 with 4:49 left in the contest, but it was the Shockers who answered the ISU threat en route to the victory.

In the win, WSU shot 55.1% (27-for-49) from the field and 85.7% (12-for-14) from the free throw line. They were 5-of-15 (33.3%) from beyond the arc, with Aaron Hogg making 4-of-7.

Junior Marcus Howard who had 13 points on the night led the Sycamores. Also scoring in double figures were David Moss with 11 and Brian Giesen who had 10. Indiana State was 30.2 (19-for-63) percent from the field and 76.9 (10-for-13) percent from the charity stripe.
