Bowling
Green, KY (10-26-2002) —
Three Sycamores turnovers resulted in 17 Western
Kentucky first-half points as the Hilltoppers defeated Indiana State, 24-7.
The Sycamores led, 7-3, after running back Sidney Montfort scampered 28 yards
with an option-pitch for a touchdown late in the first quarter.
Montfort's run was set up by a 14-yard Julian Reese to Tommy Signars pass. But the Sycamores' fortunes were to turn for the worse late in the second stanza. The Hilltoppers intercepted a Reese pass at the ISU 35 yard line to begin a drive which would culminate in a WKU touchdown.
Reese
then fumbled the ball away on the Sycamores' next possession, giving the
Hilltoppers the ball at the ISU 15, leading to another WKU touchdown.
While the Sycamore defense kept the Hilltoppers out of the endzone throughout
the second half, including turning back the Hilltoppers on three ventures into
the red zone, the Indiana State offense never got rolling, as it was held to
just 198 yards in total offense (the second-lowest output of the season).
