Sycamores Football Notes: Game 10

Terre Haute, IN (11-2-2002) — The Indiana State Sycamores return to Memorial Stadium, where they are undefeated in 2002, to host Northern Iowa, Saturday, November 2. Kick-off for the contest, which will celebrate homecoming, is scheduled for 1:05 p.m., CST.

The Records - Indiana State enters the contest at 3-6/1-3 GFC, following last Saturday's 7-24 loss at Western Kentucky. The Sycamores, who are a perfect 3-0 at home this season, have nonconference losses against two Div. I-A programs (17-48 at W. Michigan, 21-23 at Ball State), as well as a 19-26 loss at #13 Eastern Illinois.  The Sycamores' victories have come against Cumberland (14-10), Murray State (34-31 2ot) and SMS (23-20 ot) while conference losses have occurred at Western Kentucky (7-24), Western Illinois (21-52) and Youngstown State (16-31).  Northern Iowa brings records of 4-4/1-3 GFC into Saturday's contest after Saturday's 20-31 loss to Illinois State.

The Coaches - Indiana State head coach Tim McGuire (Nebraska '75) is in his fifth season at the helm of the Sycamores football program.  McGuire's record as head coach at Indiana State stands at 15 victories and 38 defeats, while his six-year career mark stands at 22-53, including two seasons as the head coach at Morningside College (1981-82).  This season is McGuire's 10th as a member of the Sycamores' coaching staff.  Northern Iowa head coach Mark Farley (Northern Iowa '86) is 15-7 in his second season as the Panthers head coach.

The Series - Indiana State trails the series, 3-15-0.  The Sycamores have dropped the last 11 contests with the Panthers, with their last win in the series coming in 1990, winning at home, 33-23.  Indiana State stands 2-7-0 in games played in Terre Haute, IN.
