Sycamores Football Notes: Game 5

TERRE HAUTE, IN (9-28-2002) — After spending the previous two weeks on the road, Indiana State returns home to host the Murray State Racers Saturday, September 28 at Memorial Stadium (cap. 12,764).  The contest, set to kick off at 1:05 p.m., CDT, will also represent 'Football Alumni Day,' with former ISU football players, coaches and managers being recognized. 

The Records - Indiana State enters the contest at 1-3, dropping a pair of games to I-A opposition, as well as a 19-26 decision at #13 Eastern Illinois.  The Sycamores' victory was a home-opening 14-10 victory over Cumberland.  Ohio Valley member Murray State brings an 1-2 mark into Saturday's contest, with losses coming on the road against I-A Memphis as well as at Illinois State (23-24).  The Racers' lone win was a 42-24 victory over Southern Illinois.

The Coaches - Indiana State head coach Tim McGuire (Nebraska '75) is in his fifth season at the helm of the Sycamores football program.  McGuire's record as head coach at Indiana State stands at 13 victories and 35 defeats, while his six-year career mark stands at 20-50, including two seasons as the head coach at Morningside College (1981-82).  This season is McGuire's 10th as a member of the Sycamores' coaching staff.  Murray State head coach Joe Pannunzio (Southern Colorado '82) is 11-13 in his third season as a head coach, all at Murray State.

The Series - Indiana State and Murray State have split the four previous meetings, with each team winning on its home field.  In fact, in the two games contested at Memorial Stadium, the Sycamores have outscored the Racers by a 118-10 margin (52-0 in 1990 and 66-10 in 1998).
