WEEK TEN (10) ANALYSIS: West Lafayette over Benton
Central is a major upset but Elkhart Central gaining over 600 yards on LaPorte
is one of the shockers of all time. LaPorte had four shutouts and Central,
against a far weaker schedule was 3-6. Merrillville was unlucky. Highland
headed downhill at midseason and couldn't stop it. LC didn't quit when
they were down 13-0, South Central was lucky and Hobart might've been hurt by
the weather. They aren't a running team anymore. And, if they played the
game again, I'd still take Munster over Griffith.
North Judson is a bad weather team, Crown Point, Whiting and New Prairie are
just rolling along. Andrean, Valparaiso and Penn got everybody into the game and
Goshen over Michigan City was very predictable.
1A - Whiting (8-2) 14, Triton (3-7) 7
Whiting will be overconfident and will barely survive.
1A - LaVille (7-3) 35, South Central (3-7) 7
LaVille is far too strong for South Central, which was lucky to win last week.
2A - North Judson (10-0) 28, Rensselaer (8-2) 0
North Judson has been waiting for this game for 365 days. Rensselaer eliminated them last year.
2A - John Glenn (7-3) 23, Knox (5-5) 12
Glenn has to beware of Knox, which scored 60 last week.
3A - Frankfort (8-2) 16, Maconaquah (5-5) 0
Frankfort is a power running team suited for a cold night.
3A - West Lafayette (3-7) 21, Twin Lakes (8-2) 20
The biggest upset of the night. West Lafayette upset Benton Central last week and they have the ground game to upend TL.
3A - New Prairie (7-3) 51, Gavit (3-7) 6
New Prairie's option running game is far too difficult to play if you've never seen it, as Clark found out last week.
3A - ANDREAN (10-0) 33, Bishop Noll (6-4) 20
This game is the Super Bowl to Noll, which lost 42-0 to Andrean in August. It will be close.
5A - Homestead (10-0) 28, Bishop Dwenger (9-0) 21
The best state-wide game of the night. Homestead has four shutouts in a row.
5A - Warsaw (7-3) 28, Huntington North (3-7) 14
Huntington North just isn't very good.
5A - Harrison (3-7) 28, Jefferson (6-3) 16
Arch rivalries breed upsets. Harrison lost to Jeff earlier but this week's game is at Harrison. Jeff has northern Indiana's leading passing attack but is that a good thing when the forecast is for 35 degrees?
5A - Hamilton Southeastern (7-3) 16, Carmel (5-5) 3
This game could easily go the other way at Carmel.
4A - Plymouth (6-4) 27, Kankakee Valley (4-6) 7
KV's rebuilding year is officially a success with the playoff win last week but you lose money betting against Plymouth in sectional play.
4A - Clay (8-2) 50, Logansport (1-8) 0
This is the reason most state's don't have an all-inclusive state tournament. This is an embarrassing match up and Logansport will suffer on a very cold night.
4A - Griffith (7-3) 42, Hammond (4-6) 0
Hammond is a warm weather, early season team. Griffith has the perfect Lake County-in-November offense and here's another team you don't bet against in sectional play.
4A - LOWELL (6-4) 34, Morton (9-1) 28
Morton has played one of the weakest schedules in the entire state and Lowell is 'Griffith-South' when it comes to running the football.
5A - Penn (10-0) 56, Elkhart Central (4-6) 0
I
still can't believe that Elkhart Central beat LaPorte. Reportedly, no one has
blocked Penn's front four all year.
5A - Goshen (10-0) 18, Mishawaka (6-4) 8
Goshen is a conservative, bad weather team with great playoff tradition.
5A - Valparaiso (9-1) 24, LAKE CENTRAL (5-5) 17
Lake Central has a big game in them and this is it. Valparaiso is coasting but they'll pull it together in time here.
5A - CROWN POINT (8-2) 28, Portage (7-3) 20
The
best northwest Indiana game of the night. A match-up of mirror-image teams but
Portage has been slipping while CP has been streaking.
