YOUNGSTOWN,
OH (10-5-2002) — Turnovers, five to
be exact, were the killer for the Sycamores as they fell, 31-16, at Youngstown
State. Offensively, the Sycamores outgained the Penguins, 287 yards to
261, but fumbled on each of their initial three possessions of the game,
including once in their own end zone which was recovered for a Penguin
touchdown.
For the night, Indiana State lost four fumbles and threw one interception. The contest saw Indiana State quarterback Julian Reese record his third contest of 200+ passing yards, logging 219 yards including a pair of TD tosses to receiver James Braden.
Braden, one of 10 Sycamores to make catches during the game, had four receptions for 64 yards, including a long of 25 yards.
Defensively, the Sycamores held Youngstown State to just 261 yards, the second-lowest opponent total of the season. Outside linebacker, Dietrich Lapsley, topped the 300-career tackle mark with 14 stops, including four TFLs (tackles for loss).
